The job we occupy during these early stages acts as something of a minigame that the player can use to earn money, at the expense of time. Over the course of the first hour or so, we become familiar with our role - trudging deliberately slowly from hall to hall and filing endless applications for various kinds of government support. As the game makes clear within the first five minutes, Beholder 2’ s setting is fairly dystopian, and the regime we work for is morally ambiguous, to say the least. Presumably continuing the main story from Beholder (which I never played) Beholder 2 begins with the player character trudging into work, having been appointed to a new role working for the government. Beholder 2 is essentially a point and click adventure, but it mixes narrative, puzzle and exploration elements in a way that makes it feel unique. The party is 1monk 1 barbo a bard a songblade and a warlock.I’ve always been a fan of the humble point and click adventure, but in recent years, it hasn’t felt enough to deliver the same tried-and-tested gameplay that made this genre so popular during the nineties. But my question is do more experienced DMS think that the party would find the beholder fight to be unfair? They all play extremely well for their action economy. We usually play in a 4 hour window and I've found that with the amount of above table talk that happens and smoke breaks that 1 small social scene & 3 fights times out really well. The party has a daily experience value of 25K and I have it scripted to be a 4.4K fight (4gnoll hunters and a re-skinned hill giant), 9.1K fight (the gnoll warband including many cr 2 gnolls) and the beholder in lair at 11.5K for a perfect total of 25K. 2 of my players for the 1 offs are also DMS and would know a beholder moveset. I'm re-skinning the beholder as a "shadow of Yeenoghu" because i plan on using this encounter in my grand campaign with other players. My party does one offs every week and this week I have them entering an abandoned church taken over by a warband of gnolls.
